AdrenaLinn 1 Presets for AdrenaLinn II

Do you like your AdrenaLinn II but miss some of the presets from your AdrenaLinn 1? This MIDI system exclusive file contains all 100 AdrenaLinn presets, translated to work on the AdrenaLinn II. It is of the AdrenaLinn II "all presets and drumbeats" format, contained in a compressed ZIP file.

Download the file AdrenaLinn 1 presets. After downloading, load into your computer's MIDI sequencer, editor or librarian software and tranfer into the AdrenaLinn II via MIDI. (If you don't have a MIDI application, you can use the Windows shareware application MIDI OX. Use the instructions for downloading AdrenaLinn DSP software update 1.6 below.) This will replace all 100 user presets with the AdrenaLinn 1's factory presets. Also, all 100 user drumbeats will be replaced with the AdrenaLinn II's factory drumbeats.

You can also download the AdrenaLinn 1 presets card in PDF format.

AdrenaLinn DSP software update (v.1.6 )

The easiest way to upgrade the software in your AdrenaLinn is to buy it from our online store and do a simple installation of the 2 chips it comes on. However, you can also download it for free.

The AdrenaLinn has 2 computers inside: a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) that performs all sound processing, and a general-purpose microcontroller. The software for the DSP processor can be updated over MIDI and the latest version is 1.6. Compared to earlier software versions, this update improves the quality of the amp models and also fixes a number of bugs. To learn whether your unit should be updated, check the serial number:

  • Serial numbers A02200 and higher (with headphone jack): These units already have the latest software and don’t need to be updated.
  • Serial numbers A00343 – A02199: These units can be updated over MIDI.
  • Serial numbers A00001 – A00342: These units cannot be updated over MIDI. However, you can purchase a software update kit from our online store.

To install the update, you must have a Windows computer (not Mac) with a MIDI interface.

Important: The MIDI interfaces on some computers are not able to process large System Exclusive file transfers like this, and as a result may not complete the transfer. Since the AdrenaLinn does not have the ability to recover from an incomplete transfer, this may result in disabling your AdrenaLinn. If this happens, the only solution will be to purchase an update kit (containing the software update chips) from our online store. For this reason, we recommend that you only perform this MIDI update process if you are familiar with computers and MIDI software.

Follow the directions below to update your software:

Step 1: Download and uncompress the files to your Windows PC

  1. Download this file: AdrenaLinn1-6_OS.zip. Decompress this file using WinZip. Save the file AdrenaLinn1-6_OS.syx to your local hard drive.
  2. Download and install the freeware application MIDI-OX. This will be used to perform the update. Click on "Download the latest version" from the main page, and follow the instructions for downloading.

Step 2: Test your MIDI interface

  1. Make sure the MIDI output from your computer is NOT connected to the AdrenaLinn.
  2. Within MIDI-OX, go to View>Sysex. This will open the SysEx subwindow.
  3. Within the subwindow, go to Command Window>Load file, and browse to the location you saved AdrenaLinn1-6_OS.syx. This will load the sysex file into the command window.
  4. To start the trial transfer, go to Command Window>Send Sysex. If the status bar moves all the way to the right without any error messages, your MIDI setup will properly transfer and you may continue with the update. If you receive an error message or the application freezes, DO NOT continue or you may make disable the AdrenaLinn.

Step 3: Perform the update

  1. Connect the MIDI output from your computer to the MIDI input of the AdrenaLinn. DO NOT connect anything into the MIDI Out of the AdrenaLinn.
  2. Make sure your AdrenaLinn is not playing and press "Main."
  3. Important: Once you start the data transfer in the next step, DO NOT DISCONNECT THE POWER SUPPLY OR MIDI CONNECTION UNTIL THE TRANSFER IS FULLY COMPLETE. Doing so will likely result in making your AdrenaLinn non-functional.
  4. To start the transfer, go to Command Window>Send Sysex. After about three seconds, the display on the AdrenaLinn should change to read "Mid." This signifies that AdrenaLinn is receiving the software update. After about 10 seconds, the display will return to normal. Wait an additional 3 seconds.
  5. To verify your software version number, hold down the "Down arrow” button while connecting power. The display should read "1-6."
  6. We'd like to know if you've updated your software successfully, please email us your name and serial number to let us know if the above transfer was successful.
  7. You may also want to update the presets below.

AdrenaLinn Presets update (v.1.6)

Starting with the release of version 1.6 software (downloadable above), we have made some small changes to the presets. Most notably, the first twenty have been changed in order to concentrate the most popular presets in these lowest numbers. You can download these presets using a Windows computer with a MIDI interface, following the procedure below. Warning: this procedure will overwrite your user presets and drumbeats.

PC only:

  1. Make sure the MIDI output from your computer is going into the MIDI input of the AdrenaLinn. Follow the directions below to update your software:
  2. Download this sysex file: AdrenaLinn_presets_2.0.zip. Decompress this file using WinZip. Save the file AdrenaLinn_presets_2.0.syx to your local hard drive.
  3. Download and install the freeware application MIDI-OX, if you haven't already.
  4. Within MIDI-OX, go to View>Sysex. This will open the SysEx subwindow.
  5. Within the subwindow, go to Command Window>Load file, and browse to the location you saved AdrenaLinn_presets_2.0.syx. This will load the sysex file into the command window.
  6. Finally, go to Command Window>Send Sysex. After about three seconds, the display on the AdrenaLinn should change to read "Mid." This signifies that AdrenaLinn is receiving the software update. Do not disturb the power supply or MIDI connection. Doing so will result in some presets being damaged, requiring the whole procedure to be repeated. After about 10 seconds, the display will return to normal. Wait an addtional 3 seconds for good measure.
  7. Your User presets and drumbeats have now been updated. To copy your new user presets and drumbeats over the factory presets and drumbeats, continue with the following steps.
  8. Remove the power supply jack from the back of the unit.
  9. Hold down the "Main" and the "Sequencer" buttons, while inserting the power supply back into the unit. Hold for about 2 seconds, then let go.
  10. Your AdrenaLinn now has the latest and greatest presets.
  11. Download the newest preset card below.

This standalone Windows application allows you to remotely edit all of the AdrenaLinns functions from a graphic PC screen, and to save and load preset, drumbeat and "all presets and all drumbeats" files.

AdrenaLinn Windows editor

Graphic view of all AdrenaLinn presets

AdrenaLinn user Peter Swetich has created a collection of HTML pages that show graphically the settings of each of the 100 AdrenaLinn presets are they appear in the Windows Editor for AdrenaLinn (above). Note that these cannot be edited; they exist merely to show the settings of each preset in graphic form in order to more easily understand the parameter settings.

This download is a zip file. Download and uncompress it to a folder on your computer, maintaining the file paths in the zip file. (All 'gif' files should go in a folder called "images" within the main folder; all 'html' files except 'default.html' and 'menu.html' should go in a folder called 'html' within the main folder.)

Click here to download the zip file. To run the application, double-click on the file 'default.html'.

Sounds and sequences for your MPC60 version 3.10

Here are a few programs (drum sets) and sequences that may be loaded into MPC60 software version 3.10. To use these files:

  1. Download the file by selecting the appropriate link below.
  2. Uncompress the file and save it to a DOS/Windows 720K formatted floppy disk. (Do not use a 1.4 meg diskette.)

If you are using a Mac, you may need to first enable the "PC Exchange extension" in order to properly format the disk. Then, decompress the contents of the file you just downloaded onto this disk using a utility such as Stuffit Expander or Shrinkwrap.

If you are using a PC, decompress the download file using a utility such as WinZip or PKUNZIP, saving the contents to a 720K Windows/DOS floppy disk.

  1. Place the floppy in your MPC60 and load the files from the disk.

Here are the files:

Here is a set of TR-808 sounds:

Mac: tr808.sit (448K)
PC: tr808.zip (325K)

Here is a set of great-sounding ethnic drums:

Mac: World_Bt.sit (691K)
PC: World_Bt.zip (506K)

Here is a copy of the 2-disk "Ambient Stereo Drum Set", included with version 3.10:

Disk 1 (PC only): amb_set1.zip (408K)
Disk 2 (PC only): amb_set2.zip (356K)

Here is a copy of the "Orb Euro House Drums" sequences & sounds disk, by MIDI Mark Productions, included with version 3.10:

PC only: mm_orb.zip (550K)

Here is a copy of the "MIDI Mark Loop" sequences & sounds disk, by MIDI Mark Productions, included with version 3.10:

PC only: mm_loops.zip (494K)

File Recovery Utility for MPC60

If you find that one of more files have mysteriously disappeared from one of your MPC60 floppy disks, but the free space on the disk indicates that they are still there, the disk may have a damaged "directory". This utility may help restore the lost files. To use it:

  1. Download the file SYSTEM.ZIP.
  2. On Windows, uncompress the downloaded file using WinZip from www.winzip.com. On Mac, uncompress using Stuffit Expander, included in Mac OS. The uncompressed file is called 'system.sys'.
  3. Copy this file to an MPC60-formatted floppy disk. (If this doesn't work, try formating a floppy to Windows 720k format in a Windows or Mac computer and copying the file to this disk. Don't use 1.4 meg disk format.)
  4. Insert the disk in your MPC60's drive and turn power on. After about 20 seconds, instructions will appear on the screen to guide you through the process of repairing a damaged MPC60 floppy disk.

NOTE: As of 8/16/05, this SYSTEM.ZIP is a new file. The previous file was corrupted and didn't work. Sorry for taking so long to notice this problem.

MIDI File Conversion Utility for the MPC60

Have you lost the MIDI File Conversion Utility Disk included with version 3.10? If so, you can download it here.

NOTE: As of 8/10/05, our good Rohan Mansell of Australia found a problem in the file we previously had here and made this corrected version:

  1. Download the file MPC60MFC.zip.
  2. On Windows, uncompress the downloaded file using WinZip from www.winzip.com. On Mac, uncompress using Stuffit Expander, included in Mac OS. The uncompressed file is called 'mpc60mfc.sys'.
After about 20 seconds, instructions will appear on the screen to guide you through the process of converting your MIDI or SEQ file.

Users Manual for Akai's Last released MPC60 Software, Version 2

Here's a PDF version of the Akai's Users Manual for the last software version for the MPC60 and MPC60-II, version 2.

Akai MPC3000> MPC3000

Version 3.12 software for the MPC3000

This software version for the MPC3000 is identical to the normal MPC3000 shipping version 3.11 except for the following: it permits the loading of stereo sounds and large 2-part sound files (larger than one 793k floppy disk) than can be created by a version 3.10 MPC60.

Note: This is NOT a full software update for the MPC 3000. This process will temporarily load a new OS into RAM, and will not be saved when you turn off the power. To use this software:

  1. Download the file m3k_v312.zip.
  2. Decompress the download file using a utility such as WinZip or PKUNZIP (PC) or Stuffit Expander (Mac).
  3. Copy the file onto a 1.4 megabyte floppy.
  4. Insert the disk into your MPC3000 and turn the power on. After about 45 seconds, the MPC3000 will be running v3.12. After loading the MPC60 sounds and saving them, reboot the MPC3000 without the v3.12 disk in the drive to resume running your internal software version. While running v3.12, your available sequence memory will be reduced by approximately 10%.
