For Visually Impaired Users

I (Roger) have created an Excel spreadsheet of LinnStrument's settings intended for visually impaired LinnStrument players.

Click here to download the spreadsheet.

Here's an overview of how the spreadsheet is set up:

The spreadsheet contains five tabs, one each for Per-Split Settings, Preset, Volume, Octave/Transpose and Global Settings buttons, all of which change the functions of the play pads to display or change specific settings. There are no tabs for the Switch 1, Switch 2, and Split buttons because the play pads keep their normal play function regardless of whether these buttons are on or off.

The Per-Split Settings tab shows the alternate functions of the play pads when the Per-Split Settings button is pressed. The leftmost spreadsheet column has 2 blank cells at the top, followed by "Row 1" through "Row 8", indicating the row number of the play pads. The second spreadsheet column has 2 blank cells at the top, followed by the 8 names of the 8 control buttons on the left side of the playing surface and a brief description of each. The remaining spreadsheet columns have "Column 1" through "Column 25" in the cells of the top row, indicating the number of the pad column. The second pad row contains the functional titles of the each of the "Per-Split Settings" columns, and pad rows 1 through 4 contain the alternate Per-Split Settings functions of these play pads. Note that pressing the top pad in column 15 displays/edits the settings for the Left keyboard split (default) in pad columns 1 through 14, and pressing the top pad in column 16 displays/edits the settings for the Right keyboard split in pad columns 1 through 14.

The Preset, Volume and Octave/Transpose tabs are similar to the Per-Split Settings tab. For each of them, the left spreadsheet column contains a blank cell at the top, followed by "Row 1" through "Row 8", indicating the number of the pad row. The second spreadsheet column has one blank cell at the top, followed by the names of the 8 control buttons and a brief description of each. The remaining spreadsheet columns show "Column 1" through "Column 25" at the top cell of the column, indicating the column number of the play pads, and the few pads that have alternate functions in these tabs are described in the relevant cell's text. Note that pressing the top pad in pad column 15 displays/edits the settings for the Left keyboard split in pad columns 1 through 14, and pressing the top pad in pad column 16 displays/edits the settings for the Right keyboard split in pad columns 1 through 14

The Global Settings tab is similar to the Per-Split Settings tab, showing the alternate functions of the play pads when the Global Settings button is pressed. The leftmost column has one blank cell at the top, followed by "Row 1" through "Row 8", indicating the row number of the play pads. The second spreadsheet column has one blank cell at the top, followed by the 8 names of the 8 control buttons on the left side of the playing surface and a brief description of each. The remaining spreadsheet columns have "Column 1" through "Column 25" at the top cell of column, indicating the column number of the play pads. Pad rows 5 through 8 contain the alternate Global Settings functions. There is an added bottom row that contains the functional titles of the each of the "Global Settings" columns, just as these titles are printed below the playing surface on LinnStrument.

Note that all tabs contain 25 columns of pads, but the smaller LinnStrument 128 has only 16 columns of pads and therefore uses only the leftmost 16 pad columns shown in the tabs. The above-described settings are in the same locations for both models, except for the Step Sequencer Settings on the right side of the Per-Split Settings screen, which are complex and described only briefly.

Thanks to George Bitzer for his kind help with this spreadsheet.
